I suspect there are at least three reasons why a poetry oriented eTree doesn't exist:

- Most literary poetry readings take place at colleges/universities/libraries--all of which are controlled environments, most with rules that generally prohibit attendees from taping. The "No Taping" policy is presented as a "house" rule, so there's usually not even a way to discuss the issue. In the event that a recording is made, it's usually published by the host institution. You can find a number of readings of this sort on iTunes.

- Many poets are technophobes or are technology challenged and aren't familiar with the resources available on the Web (such as the Internet Archive) or the Creative Commons concept.

- The audience at literary poetry readings is also often made up of technophobes and/or the technology challenged. Making a quality recording and posting it on the Web is probably pushing their level of comfort with the necessary technologies.

Please note that I'm not demeaning poets or the audiences for literary poetry readings. And, I don't want to come across as a snob--just a realist. The gulf between art and science has been re-imagined in our time as a gulf (war) between art and technology. Of course, this is changing as younger generations move into the mainstream creative class and the the tools become easier to use.

Finally, it's also worth noting that readings of literary poetry play second fiddle to poetry slams and other performance focused schools of poetry. Performance poetry is widely available on YouTube.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09284345651864419823noreply@blogger.com
